Abstract

447,845. Hoppers. LANGSDORF, W., 280, Euston Road, London. Feb. 4, 1935, No. 3577. [Class 78 (i)] [See also Group XVIII] A device for feeding powders and the like into a mixer in predetermined and variable proportions comprises a plurality of feeding drums b each mounted on a driving shaft c under a separate hopper e and adapted by axial displacement on the shaft to vary its feed of material from the hopper, means being provided for rotating the drums at a uniform relative speed. Each feeding drum is formed with a feeding portion having longitudinal grooves or pockets f adapted to receive material from the hopper and to deliver it through a discharge opening g, and with a plain or neutral portion, the relative lengths of the two portions beneath the hopper outlet determining the amount of material fed. One end of the shaft c is bored for the reception of a nut m and a screw spindle n. An extension o on the drum b is connected to the nut m through screws and a tongue p which is guided in a groove q in the shaft c. By rotating the spindle n by a hand-wheel r the drum is moved longitudinally on the shaft. A stirring device l in the hopper is rotated by a sprocket-andchain drive from a sleeve i mounted on the drum and shaped to conform to its grooved cross-section to prevent leakage of the material. A number of feeding devices may be arranged in a circular row around a common driving wheel engaging pinions at the ends of all the radially arranged shafts c.
