[Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] Apparatus for building walls comprises a carrier P mounted upon an aerial wire or rope R and adapted to support a boat member having clamps which hold in position slides or shutterings M, between which bricks, blocks, or slabs are built or concrete is cast. The boat comprises two clamps each in the form of a pair of angle-iron arms A, A<1> which are connected at their upper ends by bolts or pivots to an angle-iron distance-piece B. The arms A, A<1> of each clamp are connected together by an angleiron member D rigidly fixed at right-angles to the arm A<1> and supported by a stay K, and an eye-bolt E, which is connected to the angle-iron D, is adapted to pass through one flange of the arm A and is provided with a collar F and wing nut G. The lower end of each arm A, A<1> is provided with a pair of hooks C adapted to be engaged by runners M<1> on the box-shaped frames of the slides M. The distance-pieces B are connected together in parallel relation by two angle-iron members H which are spaced apart to allow for the mounting of pulleys J. The arms A of the two clamps are connected together by an angle-iron L supported by stays K<1>, and by a tubular distance-piece L<1>. Similar means are used to connect the arms A<1>. A beam V, which is composed of two longitudinal members spaced apart by members V<1>, is supported on scaffolding V<2> and is provided with pulleys J<2> carried from brackets Y. An aerial wire R mounted below the beam V is adapted to carry the carrier P by pulleys J<1> running on the wire. The boat member is supported from the carrier P by means of a rope R<1>, which runs over pulleys J<1> on the carrier P and pulleys J of the boat member, and is connected at its ends to counterbalancing weights W. If desired, the rope R<1> may be fixed at one end and a single counterweight attached to the other end. The boat may be moved along the wall by movement of the carrier P and may be also moved vertically. The thickness of the wall may be varied by adjusting the connection between the arms A, A<1> and the distance-pieces B, and also the connection between the eye-bolts E and the angle-irons D. As shown in the drawing, the slides M are positioned for the building of a wall comprising slabs Z previously plastered on the outer faces and having a concrete filling Z<2> between the slabs. In this case, the slabs Z are placed with their plastered sides against the slides M, and, after provision of the concrete filling Z<2>, the plaster surfaces may be finished by slackening the clamps A, A1 and giving a floating movement to the slides M. The boat may then be moved and positioned for the formation of another section of the wall. For building concrete walls in situ, several slides or boards M are positioned in the boat, which may be arranged with the arms A, A<1> extended so as to accommodate a number of slides or boards one above the other. Spirit levels N, N<1> are employed as shown in the drawing. In the erection of brick or slab walls without a concrete filling, the bricks or slabs are laid between the slides with mortar joints. The Provisional Specification describes also a boat in the form of clamps, each comprising two arms connected at the top by a distance-piece, and longitudinal battens extend between the lower ends of the arms of the clamps for supporting the shuttering or slides. The arms of each slide are connected by a bolt having a wing nut, and a spiral spring on the bolt presses the arms apart when the nut is slackened. A further distance-piece may be provided between this clamping bolt and the top distance-piece. In this arrangement, the centre space between the battens is filled with bricks and the spaces between the bricks and battens are filled with plaster.
