Abstract

442,944. Cable drums. PIRELLIGENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., HORLEY, R. E., and COTTELL, N. J., 343, Euston Road, London. Aug. 16, 1934, No. 23644. [Class 99 (ii)] [See also Group IX] The barrel 11 of a cable &c. reel or drum is supported by an internal triangular hub which is made from a sheetmetal blank, Fig. 3, and is provided with lugs 3 adapted to project through and to be bent against the side flanges 12 of the reel. The blank is bent along lines defined by three series of perforations 1, and it is retained in its bent-up configuration by complementary lugs 2 at its ends. Preferably the blank is formed with segmental extensions 5 which are bent at right angles to lie against the flanges 12, said segments being provided with edge flanges 6 upon which the barrel 11 rests and also reinforcing struts 8, Fig. 5.
