Abstract
Vat dyes containing two thiazole rings of the formul <FORM:0441915/IV/1> or <FORM:0441915/IV/2> wherein R and R1 are radicles of the benzene, naphthalene or anthraquinone series, at least one being of the anthraquinone series, and Z is methyl or anthraquinonyl, are prepared by condensing an o-aminomercaptan of the formula <FORM:0441915/IV/3> with an arylthiazole carboxylic acid halide of the formula <FORM:0441915/IV/4> halogen, the carboxylic acid halide being attached either to R1 or to the m -carbon atom, and R and R1 having the above significance. Alternatively, aminoaryl compounds are condensed with the thiazole carboxylic acid halides, and if halogen is present in o-position to the amino group, this is replaced by a mercapto group and ringclosure to give a second thiazole ring; or the product is converted to the imide chloride according to Specification 322,184 and the latter treated with sulphur or a sulphurizing agent and finally with a dehydrogenating agent. In examples: (1) 1-mercapto-2-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with 6-chlorbenzthiazole2-carboxylic acid chloride (greenish-yellow shades); using 6.7 - benzobenzthiazole-2-carboxylic acid chloride as a reaction product a reddish-yellow dye is obtained and yellow dyes are obtained by using 1-amino-2-mercaptoanthraquinone or 1.5-dimercapto-2.6-diaminoanthraquinone as one reaction component; (2) 1-mercapto-2-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with 2-methylbenzthiazole-6-carboxylic acid chloride in nitrobenzene (yellow shades); (3) 2-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with 5-chlorbenzthiazole-1-carboxylic acid chloride in o-dichlorbenzene, the product treated with phosphorus pentachloride, the resulting imide chloride condensed with potassium hydrosulphide and finally treated with concentrated sulphuric acid; (4) 1-chloro-2-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with 5-chlorbenzthiazole-1-carboxylic acid chloride the product treated with sodium sulphide and sulphur and ringclosed by heating with p-toluenesulphonic acid in a -chlornaphthalene.
