Abstract

441,235. Bomb - dropping sights. STOYANOWSKY, A. T., 3, Rue d'Aguesseau, Paris, and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., 58, Victoria Street, Westminster. Jan. 17, 1935, No. 1617. Drawings to Specification. [Class 92 (ii)] [See also Group XX] A bomb-dropping sight comprises akinematographic camera photographing a scene by means of infra-red radiation from a moving aircraft when the latter is moving in a horizontal direction, and means for processing the film immediately and presenting a kinematographic picture of the scene to an observer in a predetermined period, the camera being oriented at a predetermined angle to the perpendicular such that the scene corresponding to the picture presented at any particular moment bears a relationship to the position of the aircraft, which is a function both of the height of the aircraft above the ground and of the speed of the aircraft parallel to the ground, with the result that an objective is located in a predetermined position in the picture at an instant when action on the part of the observer resulting in the release of a bomb becomes necessary if the bomb is to reach the objective. Corrections for wind and the like may be made.
