440,617. Making window frames &c. TERNSTEDT MANUFACTURING CO., 6307, West Fort Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Jensen, O. H. ; 329, Cortland Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) July 6, 1935, No. 19351. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1934. [Class 83 (iv)] Angular-bending.-In a machine for bending strip for vehicle window frames &c. in which a pressing tool irons the strip about a rotating die, means is provided for moving the geometric centre of the die relatively to the centre of rotation of the table to prevent injury to the parts when using a non-circular die. A die 18 of suitable contour is mounted on a table 19 slidable in a guideway 22 in a track 10 rotated from a shaft 17. A guideway 31 in the bottom of the table engages a slider 30 on a pin 29 adjustable by a hand screw. The position of the pin 29 is adjusted so that the motion of the die, due to the guideways 22, 31 is away from the presser 52 as it approaches a part of greater radius and vice versa. The table is rotated from an electro-motor 12 through a clutch 13 controlled by an air cylinder 97. The pressing tool 62 is controlled by an air cylinder 65. Hand operated valves 108, 109 control a main air valve 102 and the supply to cylinder 97. Clack valves 121, 122 and a valve 110 operated by stops 112, 113 on the table 19 are fitted. Operation. The strip 37 is secured to the die 18 by a clamp 51. The valve 108 is operated and air pressure from supply 101 operates piston 104 to turn valve 102 and admit pressure to cylinder 65 to project the ironer against the work. The valve 109 is then operated to engage the clutch 13 causing the table to rotate. When the concave part of the die has passed the pressing tool 62 a clamp is dropped to hold this part of the work against the die stop-motion. When the table has rotated 350‹, the cam 113 operates valve 110 to admit air to cylinder 105 to reverse valve 102 to stop the table and to allow a small piston to retract piston 64 and ironer 52. The valve 109 is again operated, the clutch is re-engaged and the table is finally stopped by cam 113 at 360‹ rotation and the strip is removed. To stop the machine in an emergency, the lever 111 of valve 109 is lifted and air passes through valve 122 to cylinder 98 to disengage the clutch and throw the valve 102 to exhaust position.
