Abstract
440,538. Embossing printing rollers. ZIMMER, H., 1357, South Street, Varnsdorf, Czecho Slovakia. April 24, 1935, No. 12392. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1934. [Class 83 (iv)] Rolling.-In impressing a design on a copper roller 5 for printing textiles by rolling or oscillating (adjustably) its surface against a die roll 4, the roll 4 is driven positively from the pattern roller 5, through gearing 71 and a splined shaft 69, on which the roll is mounted. The roll 5 is coupled to a clutch 6 which is oscillated by pairs of top and bottom rods 14, and lever 15, Fig. II, from a crank disc 10 so that variation of the central pivot point 17 of the lever 15 by moving the fork lever 18 about its pivot 34<1> by the handle 39<1> of the rock-shaft 19, varies the angle of oscillation of the roller 5. There are three positions of this lever 18, viz. the slide carrying the pivot 17 can move between adjustable stops 21, or between stops 31<1>, 31<1> when lowered, or the pivot 17 rests in a recess in the lever 18 to give simple pivoting without initial lost motion between stops. To start the machine, the handle 45<1>, Fig. II, is rocked to rotate the pin 46<1>, Fig. III, which rocks the bush 27 connected by gearing to the switch 28 of the actuating motor coupled to clutch 6. To stop the roller at the same point so as to re-start the pattern accurately, the cam 22 on the crank disc 10 operates a lever 23, raises a pull rod 24 to rock-shaft 26 and so to disengage the clutch as in Fig. III. When the handle 451 pushes the rod 24 from the pin 571, Figs. II and III, the pin 461 is free to rotate the bush 27 and so close the switch 28 to start the operation, but after a suitable number of oscillations, the handle 45<1> may be moved to engage 24 with pin 57<1> to stop the machine. Stoppage does not take place until the pin 46<1> now moved by declutching pedal 441, Fig. I, to the end of the sleeve in slot 58<1>, so that it overtakes its lost motion therein and then operates the sleeve and stop switch 28. The die roll 4 is lifted or lowered on to the work by mechanism shown in Fig. V in which for lifting, a lever handle is moved from 52 to 52a, actuating a reversing switch 53 of a motor 67<1>, operating the worm wheel 70<1>, on the shaft of which is an eccentric roller 45 which tilts the weighted lever 9 about its pivot 9<1>, and so lifts the roll 4 about its pivot 6<1>, the upper and lower positions being fixed by stops 44 which are coupled by lever 54 to the motor switch 53. The lever 52 operating the eccentric 63 gives fine adjustment by moving the eccentric 63 and its rod 48 to pivot the plate 46, and so swings the eccentric 45 with the plate 46 about the pivot 47 whereby the eccentric 45 varies its lifting or lowering of the lever 9 about its pivot 9<1> so giving fine adjustment to the roll 4.
