Abstract

Relates to carriers such as films, on which records of vibrations may be made mechanically in such a manner that they may be reproduced by optical means, such carriers having a recording layer of gelatine. According to the invention which is particularly applicable for sound-recording or picture-telegraphy, in order to improve the quality of the recording layer, so as to prevent the formation of scratches and a frosted appearance on the record track as far as possible, and to minimize blunting of the cutting edge of the recording tool, a sulphonated castor oil such as that known as "Türkonöl" is admixed with the gelatime, either before application to the carrier, or afterwards by impregnation.
