Abstract
439,576. Cleaning cotton. HARRIS, J., The Poplars, Earlswood Lakes, Warwickshire. June 11, 1934, No. 17202. [Class 120 (i)] A machine for cleaning cotton comprises a succession of co-operating rotating brushes 3, 4, 7, Fig. 1, which rotate alternately in opposite directions at progressively increasing speeds and which are fitted alternately with ordinary bristles and projecting steel wires, the cotton being removed from each brush by the next with which it is in contact and being discharged from an opening 9 by the draught created by the last brush. As applied to a gin the bristles of the brush 3 are arranged in contact with the gin saws 2. The brush 4 serves to project dust, trash, &c., into the compartment 6 while the lint passes on to the brush 7 and is discharged through the opening 9. Gaps 12, 13 are also provided for the discharge of foreign matter. For cleaning cotton or cotton waste the material is fed on a belt 15, Fig. 3, to a rotary wire brush 16 and then successively to the brushes 19, 20, 21. A knife or separator 17 adjustable on a bar 18 is provided adjacent to the brush 16. A pressure roller 23 for an automatic stop may be provided while the machine shown in Fig. 1 may be adapted for both purposes by fitting the brush 16 and feed belt 15 thereto, the brush 16 being moved out of engagement with the next brush when the machine is used for ginning.
