[Class 137] An air-conditioning unit for heating, or cooling, moistening and filtering air comprises inner and outer casings 10, 30 and fans 12 for circulating air through the casings, and discharging the conditioned air through outlets 19, the air being discharged upwardly when cold, but downwardly when hot due to adjustment of directional louvres 65. The outer casing may be easily removed to expose and allow access to the components in the inner casing. Fresh air enters through a duct 26 and recirculated air through louvres at the side of the unit, and these are mixed in a chamber 30<a>, filters 23, 22 being provided for the incoming air. Fans 12 driven by a motor 13 blow the air through conduit 17<a> and into contact with heating coils 44, a moistening bath 60, and cooling coils 47, the conditioned air escaping through the adjustable louvres 65. When the air is to be cooled, and the coils 44 are not operating, the louvres 65 direct the air upwardly. When heating takes place, a thermostat causes the louvres 65 to be operated so that the warm air is directed downwardly. This thermostat may comprise a bellows, Fig. 4, which, on expansion due to heat, presses upwardly a link 72 pivoted at 75 against the action of a spring 79 until the link engages a stop 88, and the pivot 76 passes over the centre of a spring 83 which snaps a link 73 downwardly against a stop 89, and rotates the louvres about their pivots 66, due to movement of a bar 68 by which they are linked together. A control knob 39, by a shaft 40 and link 41, operates a damper 37 in the fresh air supply, and adjusts the proportion of fresh air to recirculated air. The supply of heating or cooling fluid is controlled by thermostats responsive to the temperature of the room. The height of the inner casing above the floor may be adjusted by turning screw-threaded portions of the legs 11, and that of the outer casing by its being mounted on stacked channel strips 36 to the desired number.
