Abstract

437,501. Ratchet clutches; operating clutches. COUCH, F. J., 216, Brooks Avenue, Rochester, New York, U.S.A. April 23, 1935, No. 12236. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Groups VIII and XXX] The various bands and rollers of a machine for calendering and folding sheets &c. are operated through clutches. When a solenoid 61, Fig. 5, controlled by the passage of the sheet, is energized, one arm 62 of a bell-crank loose on a shaft 73 is moved to free a bellcrank 71 carried by a disc 69 in line with another disc 67 which is constantly rotating and carries a number of laterally projecting pins 68. When the lever 71 is freed it is pulled by a spring 72 so that one arm engages the pins 68 and the disc 69 then rotates with the disc 67. A side projection 100 on the disc 69 engages a lever 96 fixed on the shaft 73 and through a lever 84 also fixed on the shaft 73 moves a lever 88, Fig. 9, to free a bellcrank 89 carried by a disc 94 in line with a disc 91 which is constantly running and carries a number of laterally projecting pins 90, all as in the case of the discs 67, 69, and the disc 94 is then rotated.
