[Class 44] Cup-like members of rubber or like material for attaching articles to smooth surfaces by suction have members of flexible metal or other springy material embedded therein. Fig. 1 shows a rubber disc a with recess b having a conical marginal portion c and with a metal disc e embedded therein, the metal &c. insertion tending to restore the cup to original form after deformation by pressure in applying to the surface to which attachment is required. The disc may have secured thereto a projecting, screw &c. for attachment to the article to be secured or supported, the screw being secured centrally as at f or marginally as at h. The disc e has perforations e<1>, e<2>, Fig. 3, and may have strengthening ribs e<3>. Modifications are described in which the insert has projecting lugs, or an annular flange, integral therewith. In another form stud-like projections are moulded on the rubber part a. In a further form the metal disc is exposed centrally, the rubber part a being of annular form. The rubber may be moulded in final form about the inset, or, as in Fig. 9, the insert e may be held flexed in the vulcanizing mould, so that on release it takes a flat form and deforms the rubber to the cup-like form shown in Fig. 1. A form of insert is described having an annular part with inwardly projecting radial limbs, and another built up of crossed strips of material. The insert may be of hard vulcanized rubber, or other non-metallic material.
