Abstract
437,161. Fluid - actuated valves. KOOYMAN, J. C., 106, van Zuvlen van Nijevelstraat, and WIEGEL, H. P., 123, Wassenaar Dorpstraat, both in Nootdorp, Holland. Feb. 18, 1935, No. 5227. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1934. [Class 135] In a safety device for controlling the outlet of high pressure containers, a small flow of fluid is permitted even when the valve 7, 8 is seated, and the valve, which is normally held away from a seat 9 defining the outlet orifice 10 by a spring 12, has a blind cavity 15 against the end of which the fluid released from the container impinges. The valve comprises a guide portion 8 of triangular cross-section and a valve portion 7 of smaller diameter seating in a reduced part of the bore of the body 4 when the gas is first turned on or a drop in pressure on the outlet side due to a hose becoming detached or other cause, occurs. So that the pressure can build up again on the outlet side the valve is made leaky or provided with a byepass groove. The byepass groove may, alternatively, be in the seat 9 or in the reduced bore as at 14. A tube 16 on the member 3 which is coupled to the gas container projects into the cavity 15, this arrangement improving the impulse given to the valve. In another form, the tube 16 is dispensed with. Another modification has a conical ended pistonlike valve member with a larger cavity. The lateral face of the valve is somewhat concave and some of the clearance between it and the valve bore may be taken up by piston rings or a coiled wire. The device may be integral with a reduction apparatus or connected thereto by the thread 5.
