Abstract

436,953. Moulding hollow blocks &c. FLACK, F. C., Legion Works, Camborne Road, Wandsworth, London. April 16, 1934, No. 11437. [Class 87 (ii)] Hollow building-blocks &c., particularly those described in Specification 394,997, are produced by tamping a quantity of concrete &c. in a mould, inserting cores, introducing more material to reach up to the upper surface of the cores and tamping the same, and finally filling the mould and tamping it, the whole exposed surface of material being tamped simultaneously at each operation by a tamping head which enters and leaves the mould. The mould has a bottom plate A supported on a vertically movable platform B and four sides A<1> ... A<4> pivoted at A<5> to the platform B. The sides in their lower position are retained by an outer box D and the platform B may be raised by the lever B'. Material is placed in the mould and tamped down by a tamper F<2> pivoted at F<1>, cores A<7> are then inserted through apertures a' in the sides and more material is introduced. This is tamped by a second tamper comprising a number of bars H<2> which enter between the cores. A top layer of material is finally introduced and tamped by a tamper J<2>. The tamping head H<2> may be situated at the side of the mould instead of the rear and the cores may pass from back to front. A wooden pallet K having grooves or ribs on its surface may be placed in the mould and recesses may be formed in the blocks by wooden fillets fixed in the mould. A gauge plate L, Fig. 5, is used to determine the quantity of material to be introduced. Arms L<2> are adapted to rest on the top edge of the mould and one end of the plate is used to gauge material for the first filling operation while the other end is used for the last filling operation.
