Abstract

435,604. Range-finders. AKT.-GES. C. P. GOERZ OPTISCHE ANSTALT, Pressburg, Bratislava, Czecho Slovakia, and MAURER, M., Klosterneuburg, Vienna. March 29, 1935, No. 9871. [Class 97 (i)] A device to be secured to each of the light - entrance apertures of a singleobserver rangefinder to enable the instrument to bE used for measuring the distance of an object which is nearer than the lowest range foi which the instrument is graduated, consists of a rotary prism system producing a variable deviation of the incident rays in the plane of triangulation, and a variable focus lens system to enable the images of near objects to be formed in the focal plane of the objectives. The attachment comprises a casing 1 secured within the entrance aperture F and carrying a pair of oppositely directed prisms 2, 3 which can be rotated equally in opposite directions by bevel gearing 4, 5, 6 operated by a knob 8<a> through worm gearing 7, 8. The rotation of the pinion 6 is indicated by a pointer 10. The variable deviation produced by the prisms has the effect of reducing the parallax angle, when observing a near object, to a value corresponding to a point on the scale of the range-finder, and the actual range can be obtained from the reading of this scale and the reading of the pointer 10. The variable focus lens system consists of elements 11, 13, the latter being axially displaceable by turning the externally threaded sleeve 12 which carries it. For practising on a target moving in a path at a fixed distance from the instrument a simple non-rotatable deflecting prism and a fixed focus lens may be used.
