Abstract
435,476. Refrigerating. BOSSINI, R. F., 398, Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, London. March 23, 1934, Nos. 9188 and 19735. [Class 29] Heat is transferred from the storage space of a refrigerator cabinet to solid carbon dioxide by a non-freezing and non-vaporizable liquid, e.g., alcohol, the circulation of which is stopped by a thermostat when the temperature in the space falls below a predetermined value. The ice may be stored in a box b having a vapour vent pipe controlled by a thermostat j and connected by a pipe g with a liquid tank f, and a heat-insulated jacket, the space between the box and the jacket being connected to the tank by circulation pipes h<1>, h<2>. The box is provided with a cover having a loaded relief valve k<1>. In operation, the vapour pressure in the box forces the liquid from the tank into the jacket space and the liquid circulates thermosyphonically via the pipes h<1>, h<2>. When the temperature in the storage space reaches the predetermined low value, the thermostat j opens the vent pipe thus releasing the pressure in the box and causing the liquid to sink from the jacket space into the tank. In a modification, the liquid is forced from the tank into a space in the bottom of the box and circulates through a coil disposed in the storage space. In another arrangement, the jacket space e<1>, Fig. 3, is connected by circulation pipes n<1>, n<2> to an outer jacket space communicating through an aperture with a reservoir r. In a further modification, the jacket spaces are connected by ducts s, t, Fig. 5, and the circulation is stopped when the predetermined low temperature is reached by a plate-valve u operated through linkage from a thermostat v. In a still further modification, the liquid circulates between a coil in the ice box and another in the storage space, the flow being regulated by a thermostatically-operated valve.
