Abstract

435,295. Hydraulic transmission of power. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London. -(Electric Household Utilities Corporation ; West Cermak Road, Chicago, U.S.A.) Oct. 13, 1934, No. 29384. [Class 69 (ii)] [See also Group VIII] The upper roller D, Fig. 1, of a wringer is journalled in a yoke 8 pivoted to a lever 73 which is fulcrumed at 76 and of which the other arm is connected to a hollow piston rod 70. The piston 50 works in a cylinder 10 and is raised, by fluid pressure derived from a rotary pump C driven by a vertical shaft 11, whenever a byepass 58 between the upper and lower portions of the cylinder is closed. The valve in the byepass comprises a rod 62 having two enlargements 61, Fig. 4, and slidable in a cylinder 63 intersecting and communicating with the byepass and having a push knob 66 at each end whereby the valve can be operated from either side of the wringer. The hollow piston rod 70 is apertured at 81, Fig. 1, and an adjustable spring-pressed ball 83 normally closes an axial passage 80 in the piston, but yields at a pressure predetermined by the spring 85 to relieve the pressure between the rollers as when articles of undue thickness are passed through the wringer. The lower roller E is driven in either direction by a reversible fluid pressure motor F of which the rotor 20, Fig. 2, is secured to the lower roller shaft, the supply of fluid pressure being derived from the same pump G that operates the roller pressure piston 50. The valve control for the motor comprises a rod 35 having enlargements 31-34 thereon and slidably mounted in a cylinder 30. The rod is operable by means of push knobs 27 positioned one on each side of the wringer. As shown, the supply of fluid pressure from the pump outlet 40 is cut off from the motor and is recirculated to the pump intake 14 through the ports 41-44. On moving the rod to the right, the ports 41 and 44 are closed and the fluid pressure passes to the motor through the pipe 24 and is returned through the pipe 23 and port 45 ; on moving the rod to the left the fluid pressure is passed to the motor through the pipe 23. The fluid is constantly withdrawn from the space above the piston 50 through the pipe 53 and is constantly returned to the space below the piston through the pipe 55.
