Abstract

434,148. R÷ntgen - ray apparatus. BERGE, A. SCHULZE-, 2, Arndtstrasse, Bonn, Germany. May 18, 1934, No. 15074. Convention date, June 30, 1933. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 20, 1934.] [Class 98 (i)] [See also Group VI] Apparatus for locating foreign bodies comprises a fluorescent screen 6, Fig. 8, having an opening therein and a guide tube 8 for a pencil, and a smaller sighting screen 11 adapted to be supported over the opening. The sighting screen is provided with cross ribs 12 and the tube 8 may be notched at 10 to centre these. In use the X-ray tube and the screen are so adjusted that the central beam of the tube produces a shadow of the foreign body on the centre of the sighting screen. The sighting screen is then removed, a pencil is inserted in the tube 8 and a mark is made on the body under examination. This position is then marked by a metal pointer 15, Fig. 9, which may be secured by plaster. Then a photographic plate is placed under the body and a stereoscopic pair of pictures is made by which the depth of the foreign body may be calculated. The screen 6 may then again be centred over the foreign body and the probe inserted through the tube 8 the calculated distance into the body. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also a pair of dividers Fig. 17 (Cancelled) having a scale 26 thereon so calibrated that when the points 20, 21 are placed on the two images of the foreign body on the stereoscopic photograph the scale 26 will give the depth of the body beneath the surface. A scale also is described by which the depth may be determined by the use of ordinary spring bow dividers. A probe for use with the apparatus comprises a socket 36, Fig. 10 (Cancelled), for insertion in the tube 8 and guiding a needle 37 and pencil 38. The socket 36 has a flange resting on the top of the tube 8 and the punch is graduated and provided with an adjustable collar 40 which is set to drive the point the calculated distance into the body under examination. To prevent deflection of the needle it may have a coned tip engaging a coned recess in the punch. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
