Abstract

A spinning nozzle for supplying viscose for the manufacture of films has conduit means arranged above the pouring slit for supplying the viscose to the upper part of the nozzle in an ascending stream or streams, a free space <PICT:0432880/IV/1> <PICT:0432880/IV/2> <PICT:0432880/IV/3> <PICT:0432880/IV/4> <PICT:0432880/IV/5> being provided in the upper part of the nozzle and above said ascending stream or streams, and the conduit exposes the surface of the viscose to this free space before the viscose sinks to the pouring slit, whereby air or gas included in the viscose escapes into the space. Viscose is delivered by pipes 12, 13 to the sides of the nozzle 11 and flows upwardly between the domed upper walls 30 of the nozzle and the partitions 31 to the central upper part of the nozzle. Air in the viscose separates into the chamber 18 at the upper part of the nozzle and the air free solution sinks from the opening 32 to the pouring slit 29. The pipes 12, 13 fit into sleeves 15 of the nozzle 11 and serve therefore as trunnions about which the nozzle may be rocked. The chamber 18 is provided with windows 26, and may be filled with an inert medium connecting the nozzle space with a pressure gauge 24 through a pipe 23 having a valve 22. A pipe 20 with a valve 19 enables the pressure in the chamber 18 to be controlled. The pressure gauge has a safety valve enabling excess pressure to be automatically relieved. A cock 35 is provided in the lower part of the chamber 18. Means are provided to enable the width of the slot, and also its shape to be varied to compensate for the varying degree of shrinkage over the width of the film. One cheek 60, Fig. 5, of the pouring slit has a rib 67 in which screws 65 operate, said screws being rotatable by thumb wheels 66 and having at their ends heads 68 which rotate freely in recesses 69 in the movable lip 62 of the pouring slit. Screws 73 pass through slots 74 in the lip 62 to fasten the lip in a desired position. The opposite lip 63 has a flexible limb 78, the shape of which is adjusted by tension screws 84 and clamping screws 85 arranged alternately in the rib 82 opposite the limb 78.
