Abstract
431,613. Arc converters. MARX, E., 431, Husarenstrasse, and BUCHWALD, H., 34, Bultenweg, both in Brunswick, Germany. Oct. 5, 1934, No. 28575. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1933. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (v)] In an arc converter which comprises a main electrode separated from an apertured screen electrode by a duct through which flows a gaseous fluid, wherein the arc when initiated on the screen electrode is blown on to the main electrode, the main electrode is formed with a central portion which is sunk below the arcing surface to form a hollow to keep the arc root from the central position. The invention is applicable to arc converters which are described in Specification 430,628. The electrodes may consist of copper, silver or an alloy of copper and beryllium and may be cooled by the evaporation of a liquid.
