[Class 30] [See also Group XXIII] A scale for attachment to a skeleton of a knife comprises a backing a of sheet metal which is wholly or partly covered with a thin sheet of wood c. The backing may be recessed as shown in Fig. 1 to receive the wood or the wood may be folded over the edges so as to be clamped between the backing and the skeleton, Fig. 3. In either case the ends of the backing preferably remain exposed to form bolsters. To facilitate the bending of the wood it is bonded with a tough, pliable layer f of lacquer resin, or cellulose derivative or the like.
