430,555. Moulding tiles &c. in endlesschain machines. DUNN, H. E., 562, Lawndale Court, and DUNN MANUFACTURING CO., W. E., 24th Street, both in Holland, Michigan, U.S.A. Sept. 5, 1934, No. 25587. [Class 87 (ii) In a machine for making tiles, slabs, &c. from plastic materials comprising a driven endless chain 8 carrying pallets 12 successively beneath the discharge opening of a hopper 17, a compressing and shaping roller 38, and smoothing and trowelling members 47, the pallets are supported on the horizontal flanges of cross bars 9 attached to the chain 8, the bars being provided with an upwardly extending flange separating the adjacent pallets and with transverse shoes adapted to bear on the upper longitudinal frame members of the machine. The chain 8 passes over upper and lower sprocket wheels 6, 7 and is driven from a motor 21 through belt and worm gearing 22, 25 and a shaft 26. The shaft 26 is provided at its ends with bevel gears 27, 29 engaging gears 28 30 secured respectively to the shaft 3 of one of the sprockets 6, and to the shaft 31 of a spur gear 32 engaging a gear 33 on the shaft of the compressing roller 38. The smoothing members 47, which are connected together by an adjustable link 50, are oscillated about their supporting shafts 49, 45 by a rod 42 actuated by an eccentric 43 on the shaft 24 of the belt pulley 23. The roller 38 and members 47 are shaped to conform to the shape to be given to the plastic material, and are adjustably mounted in eccentric bearings.
