[Class 135] [See also Group XVII] A device for filling, emptying, and resealing liquid containers while their contents are under pressure comprises a bung-hole bush 10 which fits within a bush 11 having a packing ring 12 and a threaded annulus 13. Fluid is passed from or into the container by means of two concentric tubes 20, 21 forming a unit slidable into and out of the container the space between them being closed at one end by a plug 22 carried by the tube 21. The outer tube 20 communicates with a pipe 25 and is slidably secured in the bung-hole by means of two nuts 14, 15 and packings 17, 19. The lower end of bush 11 carries a rubber extension 49 grooved to take a valve disc 47 tongues 50 on which engage resiliently in a groove 55 on the end of the tube 21. When the unit 21, 22 is slid into the container the tongues 47 engage the groove 55 after which the valve disc 47 is pushed from the seat so that the unit 21, 22 may be pushed down almost to the bottom of the container. Filling takes place through the tube 25 and the annular space between the tube 21, 22 and venting through the inner tube 21. Emptying takes place through tube 21 and venting through tube 20 by means of openings in the wall. Cleaning e.g. by superheated steam and carbon dioxide takes place through tube 25. When the inner tube 21 is withdrawn the valve disc 47 is again seated across the opening in the extension 49. Analogous forms of valve are shown in Figs. 3, 5, 8, and 9.
