[Classes 16 and 146 (ii)] In a tourist's guide book including a map serving as an index of the contents, the features of the map are marked with signs which are reproduced at the edge of the map, each sign corresponding to a recess or hole which extends down to the particular page of the book on which is reproduced the information concerning all the features of the map in question corresponding to the sign. A railway map, having main lines indicated by thick lines a and secondary lines by thin lines b, may be printed on two adjoining pages of a book ; the lines a serve to divide the map into sections and these lines like the secondary lines connected thereto are marked with index letters or numerals. These index numerals, &c., are reproduced at the edge of the map, each corresponding to a recess d at the edge of the book which extends to the particular sheet giving particulars of all the routes marked with any one numeral. The numerals may also be repeated at the bottom of the recesses. To reduce the dimensions of the map, the several towns of a district may be arranged in the form of a fan f, the centre of the fan being situated at the centre of traffic for the district which bears an appropriate numeral, e.g. 16, a second fan g may be branched off from the fan f showing the places in the district which may, for example, be reached by motor coach. Several maps and timetables may be united in one book.
