Abstract

429,595. Diagnosing diseases electrically. ELLIS, F. C., 400, North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Nov. 4, 1933, No. 30713. [Class 81 (ii)] Apparatus for determining the electrolytic condition of an animal body comprises an indicating device responsive to a direct, non- pulsating current, dissimilar electrodes, at least one of which is movable for application to various parts of the body, and means for indicating on said device the current produced by contacting the electrodes with the body. A galvanometer 14, Fig. 2, provided with a shunt 20 is connected to electrodes 28, 32, for example of copper and zinc respectively, by way of switches 22, 26, 34 and either a variable resistance 36 or amplifier 38. The components are housed in a casing 12, Fig. 1, carrying the galvanometer scale 16, resistance control 36<a>, and shunt control 20<a>. The electrodes may be of various types, for example one may be carried by a head band the other applied to various parts of the body. The health of the patient and the effect of various treatments are indicated by the galvanometer readings.
