Abstract

429,149. Drilling-machines. VOMAGBETRIEBS AKT.-GES., Plauen, Vogtland, Germany. Sept. 17, 1934, No. 26658. Convention date, July 31. [Class 83 (iii)] In a drilling-machine having one or more vertically arranged stationary spindles and a hydraulic vertically-fed work-table, the control valve for the table is operated by a handle arranged near the spindle so that vertical movement of the handle operates the valve and lateral movement operates the switch of the motor which drives the spindles. The machine comprises a frame 1 carrying a vertically fed table 12 and a plate 9 to which are attached the bearings 8 for a number of drill spindles 5 which are adjusted laterally by screwed shafts 10 and nuts on the bearings 8. The pulleys 6 on the spindles are all rotated by a belt 4 passing over guide pulleys and driven by a motor 2 within the frame 1. The table 12 has a vertical extension 14, Fig. 1, at one side which carries lower and upper bearings 15, 16, engaging opposite sides of a vertical guide-rod 17 secured to the frame. Rotation of the table about the rod is prevented by a shoulder attached to a bracket on the table and held by spring pressure against a guide-strip 20. The table is fed by a hydraulic cylinder 21, Fig. 3, pivotally supported at 27 on the frame and provided with a piston rod 23 connected to a pivot 24 on the table. Oil is supplied to the cylinder by pipes 30, 31 and a pump 28 driven by a motor 29. The reversing and control valve for the cylinder is operated by a U-shaped handle 32, Figs. 1 and 3, passing round the front of the machine adjacent the spindles 5 and arranged so that oscillation of the handle about the axis of a shaft 33 operates the valve whilst axial motion of the shaft operates the switch 36 for controlling the motor 2. The valve, (not shown), has five positions, the upper and lower extreme positions of the handle 32 causing rapid downward and upward movement of the table, the intermediate lower position causing a slow upward feed, the intermediate upper position opening the bottom of the cylinder to exhaust so that the table may descend by its own weight, and the horizontal centre position shutting off both ends of the cylinder to maintain the table stationary. The handle 32 may also be operated automatically through bevel gears connecting its shaft 33 to a vertical shaft 37, Fig. 1, collars 40 being adjustably secured to the shaft 37 and being provided with cam grooves 41 engaged by a roller 39 on the table so as to rotate the shaft 37 at different parts of the stroke of the table. The pump 28 also supplies oil to a distributing device 43 and thence to the ball bearings of the spindles 5 by pipes 42.
