[Class 135] [See also Group XIII] In a thermally-operated valve, a flexible bellows 2 is fixed at the upper end to a tube 4 and at the lower end to a tube 3 which are free to move relatively with slight clearance. The tube 4 is adjustable within the body 6. The bellows 2 contains a volatile liquid, the vapour pressure of which acts on an immiscible liquid, e.g. oil, in the tube 4. A stopper 9 enables the air volume above the oil to be regulated, and the opening 10 may be sealed with lead. The valve is suitable for controlling the outlet of a radiator. In a modification, the tube 4 extends upward and contains a piston which moves upward as a result of increase in pressure of the vapour of the volatile liquid. An adjustable stop limits the movement of the piston at a predetermined temperature of the volatile liquid, and the valve is then actuated. In another modification, the stopper 9 is replaced by an adjustable bellows. In another modification, Fig. 5, the thermostatic element is connected by pipe 29 to a bellows 42 which actuates a piston valve 40 in the passage of the fluid to be controlled. An adjusting member C comprises a bellows 45 subjected to a hand-set cam. In another modification, Fig. 6, two concentric tubes 46 are coiled into a spiral, and the volatile liquid is placed in the space between the two tubes. The innter tube contains the pressuretransmitting liquid, which extends into the chambers 49<a>, 51, and through the tube 55 to the valve. An adjusting device, Fig. 7, which is also connected to the tube 55, comprises a corrugated tube 61, the free upper end of which carries a member 65 sliding in the tube 64 and in contact with an eccentric cam 67 which is integral with the manually-rotatable casing 68.
