[Class 98 (i)] In apparatus in which a photo - electric cell is used to determine the exposure in photographic cameras, the current strength in the cell is adjusted by means positively connected either to the diaphragm or shutter setting means in accordance with the formula J Î TÌ = constant where J is the diaphragm aperture and T the time of exposure. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the shutter setting disc 11 has an eccentric portion 12 constructed in accordance with the formula, provided with teeth engaging a rod 14 having a straight line movement and connected to a second rod 15 toothed to operate the setting ring 17 of the diaphragm of the cell 29. This diaphragm is restored to the zero position by operating the lens diaphragm 18 which is connected to the cell diaphragm by a rack 20. An indicator J having a setting mark is connected to the cell. In a modification, this indicator shows directly the necessary diaphragm aperture, the rack 20 being then omitted. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the shutter setting disc 79 operates a rack 84 to vary the resistance 20 in the circuit of the cell 53 in accordance with the formula. The resultant current rotates the armature 76 of a D'Arsonval galvanometer connected by cords to a shaft 99 rotation of which moves the plates 68, 69 to vary the aperture between them. The electrical resistance of this arrangement and the mechanical transmission of Fig. 1 may be replaced by a filter screen graded according to the formula and moved in front of the cell during the setting of the shutter or diaphragm.
