Abstract
426,890. Endless - belt conveyers. ALLEN, W. H., 142, Salisbury Road, Moseley, Birmingham. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 33975. [Class 78 (i)] A flexible steel or other conveyer belt 1, Fig. 3, has a plain central portion 2 on which the material is carried and perforated side portions 3, 3 through which it is discharged to a series of hoppers 4. Material is deflected from the part 2 to the sides by fixed ploughs 5, any material that does not fall through the perforations being returned to the part 2 by fixed ploughs 6 and carried on to the next hopper. Each plough is movable vertically and is pressed lightly into engagement with the belt by springs 12, Fig. 2. Any set of ploughs can be raised from the belt to be put out of action by a lever 13. A fixed wiper 7 carried by the hopper 4 bears against the under surface of the belt and prevents material being carried from a filled hopper on to the belt supporting rollers, &c. Material remaining on the belt at the end of the run is transferred by a plough and shoot to the central part of the lower run and taken back to the feeding point where it is discharged. This transfer from the upper to the lower run may take place at any point in the upper run. The belt 1 may be replaced by three parallel belts spaced apart and the discharge may take place through the gaps between them. In another modification the belt has a plain carrying portion at one side and a perforated delivery portion at the other. In a further modification adapted for the selective distribution of a plurality of parallel streams of material, the belt comprises a central perforated portion and side plain portions, and the ploughs are movable so that either of the streams may be deflected first on to the perforated portion adjacent any hopper and re-deflected on to the plain portion. In all constructions rotary or otherwise movable brushes may be provided above or below the perforations to assist the passage of the material through them. The belt may be replaced by a conveyer of the slat or tray type. Specification 427,159 is referred to.
