Abstract
<PICT:0426642/III/1> <PICT:0426642/III/2> In catalytic apparatus of the type comprising perforated tubes d, e embedded in the catalyst for the supply or withdrawal of fluids the tubes are rigidly attached to the chamber at one end and are provided at the other end with guiding means permitting expansion but preventing lateral movement. The guiding means may be sleeves m, pins l or rings projecting from the cover c or the false bottom b of the chamber or holes or recesses in the latter. The false bottom b is supported on transverse webs b<1> which are arched to permit the withdrawal of the catalyst through the openings b<9> and manhole a<3>. In assembling the apparatus the tubes are united with the cover plate and false bottom which are secured together by temporary tie-rods (not shown). This assembly is then lowered into the casing a, the tie-rods are removed permitting the false bottom to rest on the flange a<5>, and the joint between cover and casing is made. The manifold connection between the supply conduit k, Fig. 17, and the distributing tubes d is provided with deformable curved portions h to permit expansion, each such portion preferably supplying two or more of the tubes d. The distribution of fluids may be adjusted by means of constrictions in the tubes at the point h<2>.
