Abstract

In evaporating liquids by a heating medium having a temperature only slightly higher than that of the liquid to be evaporated, the evaporating surfaces enclosing the heating medium are disposed partly or wholly above the level of the liquid and the liquid is caused to form a froth on the evaporating surfaces. Frothing may be produced by concentration of froth producing substances contained in the liquid or by adding frothing-agents, e.g. alkaline carbonates.
