Abstract
423,382. Vehicle windscreens; windowframes. AUSTER, Ltd., and DAVY, J. F., 174, Barford Street, Birmingham. Oct. 17, 1933, No. 28663. [Class 103 (ii)] [See also Group X] A motor-vehicle windscreen frame comprises a top channel 1 and depending side channels 2 for receiving the glass of the screen, the corner connections being reinforced by one or more steel angle - members having arms 5 extending along the channels between the bottom of the channels and the edges of the glass. The channels are secured together by brazing or welding and by external gusset-plates 3. The invention is shown applied to the angularly-adjustable top portion of a two-part windscreen, the glass panel of which is prevented from dropping in its frame by L-shaped shoes 8 attached to the side channels 2. The arms 5 of the angle-members extend completely or partly along the channels and are secured by screws 4, 4<a> supporting the gusset-plates 3 and by screws 6, 7 passing respectively through the sides of the top chamiel 1 and through the bottoms of the side channels 2. In a modification (not shown) a single U-shaped reinforcing member comprising a long steel bar lying within the top channel 1 and having its ends bent to lie within the side channels, is employed to stiffen the frame.
