Abstract

Flexible tubes or hoses of polymerization products of aryl olefines such as polystyrol are produced by pressing the material through an annular nozzle at high temperature and drawing the tube at a speed which is greater than the outlet speed of the said nozzle. Electric insulated conductors are made by passing a metallic conductor through a hole provided in the central part of the nozzle during the <PICT:0423314/IV/1> formation of the tube. Using the apparatus described, a copper wire b passes through the central opening in a nozzle h through which is pressed the polystyrol g. The tube containing the wire is drawn off by means of a wheel e and wound on a bobbin f. A cooling device n is provided. In a modification, thin layers of fat are introduced between the metallic conductor and the first insulating covering and between individual insulating coverings. In another modification, the conductor is surrounded with a winding of insulating material, e.g. a cord or thread of polystyrol, before drawing the flexible tube thereon. The insulated conductors may be stranded into groups after heating to about 50--70 DEG C., and the groups may be covered with a tubular covering of polystyrol, preferably without using the intermediate layer of fat or the like.
