Abstract
423,139. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 28, 1934, No. 9710. Convention date, April 1, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to an arrangement employing a valve having a thermionic cathode for controlling the supply of energy from a source of current to a load circuit and consists in the provision of means for delaying the application of load to the valve until the cathode has heated to the operating temperature and also for preventing interruption of the flow of current through the valve upon a momentary failure of the source, for an interval greater than that of the failure of the source. This is to avoid the undesirable prolonged breaking of the load circuit as a result of a momentary failure of the source. The anode circuits of valves 15 operating in a rectifier arrangement are completed by means of a switch 16 having an operating solenoid 17. Closure of the switch 20 energizes the filaments of the valves 15, and the operating winding of a time delay closing relay 21, which, after a time interval to allow the filaments to heat up, completes the circuit of a relay 23 which energizes the operating circuit of the switch 16. This relay 23 closes immediately, but has a time delay opening so that it remains closed during a momentary failure of the supply. To prevent delay in the re-energization of the relay 23, due to the relay 21 opening, the relay 23 is provided with holding contacts 24.
