422,868. Electric furnaces. EVANS, O., 27, Chancery Lane, London. - (Allgemeine Elektricitats-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl- Ufer, Berlin) July 22, 1933, No. 20746. [Class 39 (iii)] In a salt bath wherein the container 1 forms one electrode, the other electrode or electrodes 5 are separated from the central part of the bath by a partition or partitions 4 which allow the salt to circulate between the central part and the electrode enclosure or enclosures. The partitions may be integral with or separate from the container and may be perforated with openings of regulatable size. One form of partition is similar to a Venetian blind. Another form consists of relatively movable adjacent perforated sheets. The partitions may rest on the bottom of the container, may hang from its top edge or may be suspended by racks secured thereto and engaging pinions for raising or lowering them. The partitions are of metal or ceramic material, and the electrodes are of iron or carbon. When two electrodes are arranged in the container a switch enables them to be arranged in series or in parallel. Polyphase arrangements are also described.
