[Class 40 (iii)] A light-valve for television and soundrecording uses the direct electro-optical doublerefraction in solid crystals, which is proportional to the applied electric field. The crystals used are translucent in the visible spectrum, electrically insulating, and are so disposed between two electrodes that the optical axis of the crystal is perpendicular or parallel to the electric field. The crystal is of an acentric group of the regular system, for example zinc blend. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the use of sodium chlorate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
