Abstract
A composition for forming a model of a tooth stump used in making a dental crown consists of 50 per cent alumina, 16 per cent silica, 33 per cent calcium sulphate, and 1 per cent of a solution of a metallic salt having a colouring action, such as platinic, palladium, iridium, or gold chloride, or other salt of a metal having a higher melting point than the porcelain paste used for the crown. The concentration of the metallic salt in solution is 1-2 per cent. The composition has a constant volume between ordinary temperatures and the temperature of baking, viz. 1200-1350 DEG C.ALSO:In a process for the production of dental crowns of porcelain or other ceramic compositions, a mass of constant volume between ordinary temperatures and the temperature of baking, viz. 1200-1350 DEG C., and consisting of alumina, silicic acid, sulphate of lime and a solution of a metallic salt having a colouring action and rendering the surface smooth and dense, such as platinic, palladium, iridium, or gold chloride, or other salt of a metal having a higher melting point than the porcelain paste to be used, is placed in the negative mould of the tooth stump made of plastic material, and a core of refractory material such as corundum inserted. This model, after hardening, is coated with porcelain, baked in the usual manner, and the crown removed. A suitable composition for forming the stump positive consists of 50 per cent alumina, 16 per cent silica, 33 per cent calcium sulphate, and 1 per cent metallic salt solution having a concentration of 1-2 per cent.
