Abstract
421,735. Axle connections for laminated springs. STARLEY, W. A., Albourne, Effingham Road, Surbiton, Surrey, and TONG, G. W., Appleby, near Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. June 30, 1933, No. 18573. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A semi-elliptical axle spring for road vehicles, including trailers, is in two halves, the outer ends of which are rigidly secured to the vehicle chassis while, in order to prevent twisting of the springs on tilting of the axle 13, the inner adjacent ends each carry a peg 16 engaging an aperture 15 in a bracket 14 secured to the axle, the aperture being at right-angles to the axle. Each peg 16 is threaded into a lug 9 having bottom and side abutments 19 for seating the end of the half-spring which is bolted thereto, projections 17, one on each lug, being drawn together by a coupling-bolt 18. Each halfspring comprises superimposed sinuous strips 3, the outer ends of which are formed as shown and bolted to the chassis 7. Fabric or other material may separate the strips along the whole length of the spring or at intervals, e.g. at the portions 22. Fig. 3 shows a modified outer end of spring having a reinforcing stay 23, distance pieces 24, and a supporting member 25.
