Abstract

Mixtures, to be sprayed into the exhaust gases of an internal-combustion engine to produce coloured smokes, consists of a colour base of triphenylmethane dyes and a substance of a phenolic character and with or without an oil. The colour bases may be tetramethyldiaminotriphenyl carbinol, hexamethyltriaminotriphenyl carbinol or triamino-triphenyl carbinol, and the phenolic substance may be ester of salicyclic acid such as methyl salicylate.ALSO:Coloured smokes are produced by spraying a colour base of triphenylmethane dyes in contact with a substance of phenolic character, these substances preferably being sprayed as a mixture or separately into the exhaust gases of an internal-combustion engine. If desired an oil may also be used to give a denser smoke. The colour bases may be tetramethyldiaminotriphenylcarbinol, hexamethyltriamino - triphenyl carbinol or triamino-triphenyl carbinol, and the phenolic substance may be an ester of salicylic acid such as methyl salicylate. The smoke may be produced from aircraft, boats, land vehicles, or stationary installations.
