Abstract

421,494. Wadding. LOOMIS, R. L., 266, Devonshire Street, Boston, U.S.A. Oct. 4, 1933, No. 27331. [Class 142 (iv)] Wadding of uniform texture and sized on both sides is made by passing a lap 23, Fig. 1, from cards 10 between size rollers 26, 27 over endless conveyers 30, 31 in a drying chamber. The conveyers are coated with beeswax by rollers 35 to render them water-repellent. In a modification, the size is applied by rollers 42, 47, Fig. 2, the side of the lap to which the size has been applied passing over the conveyers 45, 52 arranged in the same or in separate drying chambers. Colour may be added to the size. To produce wadding having polished surfaces, the size may contain chalk and silicate of soda.
