Abstract

421,316. Looms having shuttle-boxes which do not move with the lay. GRAF, J., Bahnhofstrasse, Uzwil, Switzerland. April 27, 1934, No. 12732. Convention date, April 28, 1933. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (iii)] A loom with stationary shuttle-boxes and a movable lay is provided with at least one clutching means, of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic type, for detachably connecting the lay or the lay support to its immediate driving members, the latter being constantly operated by cranks, cams or grooved discs on the crank shaft. The clutch may be controlled by warp protectors, weft feeler or stop motion mechanism or cop guards and, in the event of disturbance in the shuttle course, a shuttle feeler disconnects the clutch and effects stoppage of the loom. Beat-up motions; lays; shuttle-boxes.- In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the lay 4 is provided with pivoted pawls such as 7 for engagement with pivoted swing levers 3 which are constantly rocked by arms 2 extending from the crank shaft. Each pawl has a depending lever 8 for engagement, on alternate strokes of the lever 3 during the normal operation of the loom, with a rod 12 which is pivoted on the loom frame. The rod 12 has a yielding connection with a rod 13 which has a vertical movement imparted to it by a cam 15 rotating at one fourth of the speed of the crank shaft, the upward and downward movement of the rod 13 causing the rod 12 to move out of and into the path of the pawl lever 8 and thereby effect engagement and disengagement of the members 3 and 7. In a modification the lay and the swing levers are provided with electromagnets which are energized at the appropriate times by means of a rotating switch under control of a shuttle feeler. In an hydraulic arrangement the connecting rods 2 are formed as piston rods and are slidably mounted in cylinders carried by a pivotally mounted lay whilst a further modification has a pivoted lay with mechanically operated clutches for engagement with slidably mounted connecting rods, the cylinder valves and the clutches being operated from the driving gear of the loom. Stop-motions, shuttle and the like.-When a shuttle fails to complete its course across the stationary lay, the appropriate swell 25, Fig. 2, maintains its position within the shuttle box and a feeler lever 24, in contact therewith, positions a lever 22 in the path of a booster 21 thereby preventing upward movement of the lever 12, and release of the pawl 7. The yielding connection of the rod 12 with the rod 13 permits the latter to complete its upward movement under the influence of the cam 15 and in so doing the lever 17 is rocked into the path of a booster 19 on the frame 3 which on its return stroke projects the rod 17 against a stop lever 20 and stops the loom. Actuation of the stop lever 20 may be effected on the forward stroke of the swing lever 23.
