[Class 40 (iv)] [See also Groups XXXV and XXXVI] Compensating condensers comprise casings having terminals a .. d for connection to the cable and internal contacts a<1> .. d<1> whereby the insertion of a condenser element, Figs. 2, 3, of suitable shape in a particular way makes the necessary connections. A single size of casing serves for condensers of a number of values. Measmements for determining the unbalance are made after the casing is connected up. Inter-quad capacities may be balanced with the aid of a casing such as that shown in Fig. 7 in which condensers are sandwiched between hinged sections each of which corresponds to a quad. Electrostatic screens may be provided in the form of conducting sleeves arranged over the casings, and, if the screens are not earthed, a further sleeve of insulation is provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application of the invention to other, e.g. magnetic, compensating elements. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
