Abstract

420,462. Sewing-machines. LOCKSTITCH WEAVERS, Ltd., 102, Customhouse Quay, Wellington, New Zealand. Sept. 6, 1933, No. 24728. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1932. [Class 112] A machine for making fabrics by stitching together fibrous materials comprises a laterally moving table which moves the fibres transversely to their length between each stitch to produce zig-zag stitching. The table 2 is actuated by cams 75, 76 which press against rollers 77, 78 and move it two successive steps in one direction and two steps in the reverse, a stitch being made between each step. The needles 145, Fig. 23, are arranged in banks, the second being displaced two fibres with respect to the first bank, the intermediate fibre being sewn by a third bank. The fibres are separated by parallel ribs 114 which are fixed at one end and are free at the other. The upper and lower threads loop over a rib as the table is moved laterally and the loop so formed slides over the rib until the end is reached. At the feed end of the machine the fibres are guided by a tension comb comprising an apertured base plate and a toothed plate 110. The under surfaces of the teeth are concave to encircle partially the fibres. The work is fed by serrated rollers 90, 91, Fig. 3, which are rotated intermittently by a pitman 94, rocking arm 96 and ratchet teeth 101, 102. Stitch forming devices.-With each needle thread is associated a take-up comprising an arm 135 which is rocked by a cam actuated rack and pinion. The thread passes through a tension device 134, over a loose pulley 131, round the groove of a sloping pulley 136 carried by the arm 135, and over a loose pulley 132 to the needle. The shuttles are driven in pairs by a gear wheel 27, the teeth of which engage holes in the peripheries of the shuttles 28. Each shuttle is recessed to allow the needle thread to pass behind the hook and is provided with a spreader. The bobbin housing 50 has a sectorial-shaped hood 52 from which projects a thread guide finger 53. The housing 50 is maintained with the finger vertical by a pivoted clip 64. Sewing-machine needles.-The lower ends of the sides of the needle channels are cut away.
