Abstract

420,344. Collapsable rollers. BRITISH BEMBERG, Ltd., Hazel House, Milk Street, London. Feb. 5, 1934, No. 3778. Convention date, July 20, 1933. [Class 100 (i)] A reel for use in the manufacture of artificial silk has a plurality of wide sweeps arcuately shaped so that tangents at adjacent end portions of the sweeps coincide. At least one of the arcuate sweeps may be collapsable. The reel may be mounted on a square shaft which is axially displaceable for producing collapse of the sweep members. The square shaft 1 is slidably mounted in reel heads 4-4, each of which comprises two segments 8-8 and a third segment 9 mounted on pins 10 carried in apertures 11. The movable segment 9 is actuated by levers 15 connected to the axially displaceable shaft 1. The winding surfaces 18 may be of acid-resisting material, and are shaped with tangential end surfaces, arranged so that tangents at adjacent end portions of the sweeps coincide. The reel may be arranged with four segments, of which two may be collapsable.
