Abstract

419,417. Check-freed article-delivery apparatus. LUCAS, T. S., and FRETWELL, C. M., 5, Wine Office Court, Shoe Lane, London. May 6, 1933, No. 13555/34. Divided out of 419,301. [Class 27.] Articles stored in compartments of rotary drums.-The apparatus is intended for use in conjunction with a machine for vending bottled substances, and delivers coins to the purchaser upon insertion of an empty bottle, and a token delivered therewith from the vending machine. The coins are stored in a series of containers each comprising a channel section member 29 and a spring blade 30 arranged in a circle around a rotary drum 11 which is moved successive steps by an operating handle 33 each time a bottle and token is introduced, to discharge the contents of successive containers through a shoot 62. Coin action weight and coin - discharging mechanism.-The bottle is inserted through an opening 20 in the outer casing, and an opening 35 in an operating member 34, into the uppermost of a series of receivers around the periphery of the drum 11, and each comprising a peg 19 having a pawl 21 pivoted thereto and an opening 18. The uppermost peg normally engages a fixed stop 22 to prevent movement of the drum, but is released therefrom by engagement with the inserted bottle. The operating member 34 is pivoted at 36, and can be actuated by the handle 33, but is normally locked against movement by engagement of a stop 49, and lever 46 pivoted thereto, with a lever 50 pivoted at 51 to the casing. The inserted bottle rotates lever 46 anti-clockwise and the token inserted through an aperture 52 depresses the lever 50, so that the operating member may be moved to the left to pass a spring pawl 40 pivoted thereto at 41 over the bottle, and to release a latch 25 from engagement with ratchet teeth 24 on the periphery of the drum by engagement of a pin 45 with a bevel 28 coupled with the latch, lever 50 being simultaneously tilted to discharge the token through an aperture 56 in a shoot 55. On the return movement of the operating member, the pawl 40 engages the bottle and drives forward the drum one step to discharge a coin receptacle, and bring an empty bottle receiver into register with the opening 20. According to the Provisional Specification, the drum may be operated through gearing from an external handle freed by insertion of a token. Tokens of special form.-The token is of special cross-section for insertion through a similarly shaped aperture 54, Fig. 3, in the casing.
