Abstract
418,718. Dispersion means for searchlights. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 5, 1934, No. 3742. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1933. [Class 75 (ii).] A searchlight with variable dispersion means, particularly for following aircraft, is provided with a plurality of dispersion sets through which the light passes successively and which are rotatable relatively to one another about the optical axis or axes parallel thereto, with the effect that in one position of alignment a concentrated light beam is produced, whilst in another position a dispersed beam is produced. The two dispersion sets shown in the Figures are arranged co-axially, and comprise sub-dispersion-sets contained in the quadrants 5-12. The quadrants 6, 8, 9, 11 contain series of prisms which deflect the light passing through them, and the quadrants 5, 7, 10, 12, contain plain glass or sub-dispersion-sets of different deflecting or dispersive power. When the quadrants 9, 11 are in line with the quadrants 5, 7, a dispersed beam is produced and when the quadrants 9, 11 are in line with the quadrants 6, 8, the beam is concentrated, the sub-dispersion-sets neutralizing the effect of one another. The dispersion sets are carried by frames 1, 3, guide rollers on the frame 1 running in a groove in the frame 3. The rotatable set is provided a remotely controlled electrical drive, which can be changed over to hand drive.
