Abstract
415,459. Spray - producers ; valves. CARPENTER, W. 1., 201, Medical Arts Building, Norfolk, Virginia, U.S.A. Feb. 24, 1933, No. 5753. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135.] A syringe, particularly for dental use, having a flexible fluid supply line connected therewith, comprises a body portion serving as a handle and including a fluid-receiving chamber, and a heating element positioned in the line and chamber. A hose 2 enters the handle 1 and is connected to a coupling 4 through which a heating element 3 extends into a fluid-receiving chamber 6. The element 3 consists of a rod, axially held within the hose and coupling, on which an electric heating wire is wound, the construction of heating means being that disclosed in Specification 400,064, [Group XI]. A bored nipple 10 communicates with the chamber 6 and fits within a syringe tip 16 which is coupled to the nipple by a sleeve 18, recessed to engage pins 15 thereon and acted upon by a spring 21. The tapered portion 14 is circumferentially grooved and wrapped with packing, and the tapering inner wall 12 forms a valve seat for a resilient plug 26 carried by a valve stem 24 which extends through the rear wall of the chamber 6 and suitable packing 28. The chamber 6 and the adjacent portion of the nipple 10 are formed with double walls. The stem 24 carries an adjustable valve control nut 31 and lock nut 32, the former having a flange 39 against which the slotted inner end of a valve control lever 37 abuts. A clamp 40 on the handle 1 pivotally carries a valve control element 41 in the form of a semi-cylindrical portion 42 formed at its upper end as a cupshaped portion providing a seat for the chamber 6 and having a forward extension 46, supporting the nipple 10, and a rearward extension 44 with a lug 45 engaging the flange 39 of the nut 31. The member 41 is gripped by the fingers and the lever 37 engaged by the thumb, so that on squeezing both are swung about their pivots to operate the valve simultaneously.
