Abstract

414,793. Stair-rod eyes. PEARSON (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., J. R., and PEVERELLE, A. C., 63, Burlington Street, Aston, Birmingham. Feb. 23, 1933, No. 5576. [Class 52 (v).] In stair-rod eyes of the kind comprising an angle bracket 10 fixed to the stair and a retaining member 18 slidable on the bracket and normally covering the end of the rod 20, means are provided for limiting the endwise movement of the retaining member while allowing it to slide from its normal position to either side of the bracket, so that the same eye can be mounted on each side of the stair with the same portion uppermost. The eye is adapted for stone or marble stairs, the bracket 10 being fixed to a tang 14 cemented into the tread. A groove 15 is formed in one side 12 of the bracket and the other side 11 has an L-shaped member 17 fixed to it to form a lower groove 16. Inturned flanges 19 on the retaining member engage slidably in the grooves 16, 17 and a set screw 24 in one flange engages a closed slot 23 in the groove 15 to limit the sliding movement and prevent removal of the retaining member from the bracket. To hold the retaining member in the normal central position a spring-pressed plunger 26 pivoted in the groove 16 engages a recess formed centrally of the lower flange 19. A projection 22 on the bracket engages a recess in the rod to prevent endwise movement. The lower side of the groove 16 extends flush wth the adjacent surface of the retaining member.
