Abstract

414,397. Statistical apparatus. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 7, 1934, No. 4076. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1933. [Class 106 (i).] Statistical apparatus in which the keyboard of an independent printing adding machine is controlled by a perforated strip L0, is characterized in that all the denominations of a number are read off the strip simultaneously but are transmitted consecutively through a distributer to effect the actuation of the adding keys sequentially. The complete number is arranged in a transverse row of the strip and is coded according to Fig. 1<a>, being decoded subsequently by the ladder circuits r1 ... r20, Fig. 1, to actuate, for each denomination, one of the magnets V01 ... V00; these latter actuating the adding keys directly or establishing a connection between a motor-driven cylinder and the key-actuating levers. Theunitsdenomination, read by brushes Be1-Be8, is perforated to represent 5 and the tens denomination, read by brushes Bz1-Bz8, is perforated for 3. The two left-hand perforation -posi - tions of the row shown in Fig. 1 may be punched to represent the sale-clerk's number and are read by brushes Bv1, Bv2. The brushes Be1-Be8 which read holes, energize the corresponding magnets Re1-Re8 of the set-up device Sp. Similarly brushes Bz1-Bz8 energize magnets Rz1-Rz8. When a magnet, say Rz1, is energized it raises the armatures below it, r1-r4, to close upper contacts. Magnets Re1 &c. close holding contacts rh1-rh8 and rh1<1>-rh8<1> in circuit with contacts krh which are closed only when a row of hole-positions is under the brushes. A distributer shaft We carries cams Ksz and Kse which close contacts ksz and kse in turn. Contacts ksz close first and connect contacts r1-r9 and r20 in circuit with a source of current. Through the ladder circuits the correct magnet, V03, is energized to actuate the "3" key of a ten-key adding machine (not shown). Afterwards the contacts kse close and the units contacts r10 to r19 function to energize the magnet, V05, for the units digit. Brushes Bv1, Bv2, are connected to magnets X, Y which control contacts x, y1, y2 coacting with a hand switch Hs which operates over four contact studs 1, 2, 3, 4. According to the position 1-3 to which switch Hs is set, a circuit can only be completed through contacts x, y1, y2, to magnets Rz1 &c. if brushes Bv1 and Bv2 read a hole or holes corresponding to the switch setting, so that the adding machine accumulates only the value numbers relating to a particular clerk. After the keyactuation, the motor-actuating key of the adding machine is struck by a cam on shaft We or on the shaft of the strip-feed roller, this effecting adding and printing. Total-taking.-To effect total-printing, a supplementary hole in the end of the strip actuates the following means in the device V0 to strike the appropriate key on the adding machine. This key is actuated by a lever operated by a cam, which latter is coupled to a driving motor when the supplementary hole is read. In a modification, the set-up device Sp is split into two sections for units and tens and these two sections are connected in turn by the distributor Ve to an independent mechanical translator in which one or more of four magnets are energized to set decoding bars. U.S.A. Specification 1,292,944 is referred to.
