[Class 74 (ii).] In knitting ladder-proof fabric, means is provided for relatively adjusting each wale thread guide and its associated needle to hold the wale thread in front of the ground thread loop, as the needle descends the stitch cam. Wale thread feeding means is described. Each thread guide in order is moved outwardly, deflected and retracted by cams 22, 26, 24 respectively. It is now again projected by a cam 23 to hold its thread in front of the ground thread loop, reaches its extreme position just as the needle has descended nearly to the bottom of the stitch cam, and is then retracted again by a cam 25 whilst the needle completes its descent. The cams 22, 23 and swinging levers 31,46 are fulcrummed on pins 30, 45 carried by a plate 29. At one end the levers carry pins 32, 47, which enter slots 33, 48, formed in slides 34, 49, and, at the other end, are engaged by stems 35, 43 upstanding from the ends of cams 22, 23, and passing through arcuate slots 37, 44 in plate 29. A pinion 39 effects engagement between racks 38, 41 formed on slides 34, 42. A pin 50, fixed to the slide 49, is engaged by one end of a lever 52, pivoted at 53, and having a pin 54 at its opposite end. To put the wale thread guides out of action, an external abutment (e.g. 55) is made to engage slide 42 and the pin 54. To bring the cams into operation the abutment is made to engage a pin 51 on the slide 34, and the pin 50. The bobbins 16, are supported by their flanges on a channelled support 17.
